By Dayr Salazar Galvez, Sentinel, Woodlake Chapter FFA
My name is Dayr Salazar Galvez, and I’m a proud member of the Woodlake FFA chapter. I had the incredible opportunity to attend the National FFA’s Next Gen Food Products and Processing Systems Conference, an experience that has broadened my perspective and deepened my understanding of the food industry.
At the Next Gen Food Products and Processing Systems Conference, my peers and I had the chance to tour several food manufacturing and processing facilities as well as a food distribution center. These tours weren’t just your typical walk-throughs; they were immersive experiences that allowed us to see the intricate details of food production and distribution. We also participated in panel discussions with leaders in the food industry, where we delved into issues related to food literacy, processing, and food scarcity. These panels were incredibly insightful, as they allowed us to ask questions and engage in meaningful discussions about the future of food.
The conference was held from June 25-29 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. These five days were packed with learning, exploration, and inspiration, making it an unforgettable experience for all attendees. The location provided a perfect backdrop for us to explore the bustling food industry in a dynamic and innovative city.
Next Gen conferences, which occur three times a year, focus on specific career pathways. This application-based conference allows students to map out their future through career exploration sessions, industry roundtables, and tours. We, as FFA members, are the next generation of leaders to fill the talent pipeline, and what better way to prepare than through the Next Gen Conferences?
The conferences are open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. For more information, visit https://www.ffa.org/participate/next-generation-conference/.
Attending the Next Gen Food Products and Processing Systems Conference was a transformative experience, and I encourage all FFA members to consider applying for future conferences. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn, grow, and prepare for our roles as future leaders in the food industry.
