Kelli Evans, a Live Oak FFA alumna, has become a pivotal force as the CEO of Evans Ag Consulting, dedicated to supporting California growers. Post-college, she translated her farm experience into a successful consulting venture. Kelli's role involves crucial support for farmers—she assists them in navigating complex grant applications and staying compliant with evolving regulations.
Reflecting on her FFA roots, Kelli underscores the impact of honed public speaking skills, stating, "Effective communication is instrumental in advocating for farmers." For current members, Kelli emphasizes the value of stepping outside comfort zones, asserting, "It will only help you later in life." Meet Dana Yount
Dana Yount, a Linden FFA alumna, excels as an environmental scientist at the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Specializing in organic waste and compost, Dana supports farmers by educating them about programs that promote healthy soils for sustainable food production.
With a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science from Chico State and a recent Master's in Regenerative Agriculture, Dana's journey reflects her dedication to the industry. Dana affirms, "FFA gave me a family of people to talk to and has helped me make connections nationwide. FFA conferences were a highlight of my high school career, getting to network with other students and teachers you likely wouldn’t have met if not for FFA." Dana's success underscores FFA's enduring impact on fostering resilience, hard work, and a sense of community beyond high school.
Meet Ian Darling
Ian Darling, a FFA alum from the state of Michigan, currently directs sales at Monte Vista Farming Company, placing a robust emphasis on supporting growers. Managing the marketing of over 40 million pounds of almonds annually, Ian collaborates seamlessly with production, quality, and logistics teams, forming vital connections with almond suppliers and global customers. Ian's mission is resolute: "My goal is to provide our customers with the best quality almonds and to achieve premium returns for our growers."
Despite starting in physics and business analytics at Michigan State University, Ian found his stride in the almond industry. Drawing from his FFA experience, Ian underscores the organization's role in cultivating communication skills. He affirms, "My experience in FFA helped me develop key communication skills that I use in the workplace every day. From running an efficient meeting (parli pro) to speaking in front of customers about different almond related topics (extemporaneous), FFA helped me develop professional communication skills that have allowed me to be successful in my career.”
