Last month, the Almond Board of California’s Leadership Program Class of 2022 hosted its fourth annual golf tournament. The tournament attracted 144 growers, handlers and almond industry leaders to golf and support FFA.
The successful tournament raised more than $23,000, which will be donated to the California FFA Foundation to be awarded in the form of scholarships to FFA members. “This event is important because the students who benefit from the scholarships are important,” said Rebecca Bailey, specialist in industry relations for the Almond Board. “These current ag students are the future leaders of the California ag industry and within their local communities. College is expensive, so being able to support students as they pursue higher education will help to ease financial and stress-related burdens.”
The 2022 Almond Leadership Program class has pledged to raise $25,000 in scholarships for high school students pursuing degrees in agriculture. The tournament is one of two major fund-raising efforts organized each year by the members of the leadership program. The second is a silent auction conducted during the annual Almond Conference in December. Through the years, the leadership program has raised more than $200,000 for California FFA.
