SOARING TO NEW HEIGHTS!
Freshman year is full of New Beginnings. Everything is new; new school, new teachers, new teams, new clubs. The list can go on. It might be too much "new" all at once or it might be the "new" you have been craving. Either way, GLC is for you!
This is no ordinary leadership conference! This action-packed day is sure to be a fun way to get to know yourself and meet new people as we explore the new world of Agricultural Education (Ag Ed). Ag Ed and FFA is a home away from home for all and will help as you start to navigate this new beginning. You will spend the day diving into what makes Ag Ed and FFA unique and where you might fit into this new world of fun and memories. We can't wait to see you soar to new heights!
Freshmen
One Day Event, 26 Conferences in late September and October
Overview
Personal development starts with the individual. Through self-discovery of talents, strengths, interests and personal characteristics, students begin their journey down the road to uncovering their life's passion. Through GLC, students will be emerged in the Who, Why, What, Where, and How they can experience Agricultural Education. This conference focuses on "ME: one's personal skills and development of the ability to be successful."
Students will be able to....
Identify personal interests and characteristics. Explore how those interests and characteristics can translate into passions and values within their time in California FFA.
WHAT is FFA / Ag Ed
Identify how Agricultural Education creates well rounded individuals through the three-ring model of Classroom & Laboratory (Knowledge), Supervised Agricultural Experience [SAE] (Skill) and the National FFA Organization (Relationships).
Hear from FFA alumni and seniors who have completed the leadership conference continuum to identify the desire of being Agricultural Education. Explore agricultural education pathways their school offers and the careers those pathways can lead to. Dive deeper into the circle of FFA to explore the five benefits of Ag Ed of Travel, Money, Personal Growth, Learning, and Competition.
WHAT is SAE
Explore the diversity of California agriculture. Investigate the circle of SAE, witness SAE highlights and rank their interest level in different/potential projects. Create a personal plan of action that address the areas of having a supervised agricultural experience project.
Celebrate!
Look back on key moments from GLC, create SMART goals for their time in FFA, and solidify key takeaways on what's next after their first conference.
This conference is sponsored by JS West as a special project of the California FFA Foundation.
