The California Agricultural Teachers’ Association (CATA) is dedicated to the service of vocational agriculture, agriculture education, and the FFA members of California. The organization recognizes members who have excelled in such service by inducting them into the CATA Hall of Fame. Last month, the CATA inducted FFA Foundation board member George Gomes into the Hall of Fame and recognized him for his outstanding service.
George served as Chairman of the FFA Foundation Board during the fundraising phase and construction of the FFA Center in Galt and was instrumental in securing industry support and funding for both the FFA Center and other FFA programs. As Undersecretary at CDFA, he provided leadership and support for the development of the California Ag License Plate program. In addition, George provided guidance and political pressure in helping Ag Education through many battles, including the proposed elimination of Regional Ag Ed Offices and Ag Incentive Grant funding. Throughout his career, George Gomes has been a true champion of Agricultural Education in California and well-deserving of the CATA Hall of Fame induction.
